Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation - What's the fuss about?

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

I've read & heard so many amazing things about this foundation over the last couple of years, so when I ran out of my L'Oreal True Match Foundation I was really excited to try this one.

Rimmel claims that this has an Anti-Fatigue effect & gives a Radiant glow which really intrigued me as lets face it, we all want to wake up in the morning & have a product which is going to make us look fabulous in a matter of minutes! It contains illuminating radiance pearls which helps to give you that beautiful glow - as soon as I see the word Radiance on the packaging I'm sold. I brought the shade 100 Ivory as I thought this would be ideal on the days when I generally couldn't be bothered to fake tan the night before as I have a different foundation for when I'm a shade or 2 darker.

It's glass packaging with a pump & a bright orange lid. I have read a few comments saying that the appearance of this foundation is tacky due to the orangeness, it doesn't bother me in the slightest as I think it stands out amoungst other foundations & it's actually easier to find in your make up bag!

My first opinion on this product was that the consistency is fairly thicker than my L'Oreal True Match which I'm not overly keen on but it does have a nice scent to it. I've tried to apply this with my Real Techniques Stippling Brush, although I have found I get a much better finish when applied with my fingers - this isn't really ideal as foundation fingers are not the one, you also get a beautiful unblended ring around your hairline! It gives a light to medium coverage, definitely not full unless you fancy having a cake face. If you look extremely close it does have a slight shimmer to it, but once you've applied it to your face it gives you a nice dewy look - don't worry you won't look like a glittery disco ball. If you do have very oily skin though I wouldn't recommend this for you as it will make you look like you've just ran a marathon!

Rimmel also claims that this can last up to 10 hours. My first attempt of wearing this foundation I noticed that after a couple of hours when I looked in the mirror, my skin looked really oily & patchy - I've got normal skin & have never had an issue regarding any face products so I wasn't very impressed! I've persevered with this a few times after but sadly the same thing has happened time & time again.
10 hours staying power? I think not.

All in all I'm definitely not a lover of this foundation. I'm really disappointed as I thought this was going to be amazing due to the hype it's received. I don't know if it's the shade I've brought or the fact that I'm using this in the Winter & Summer time would possibly be better? Maybe my expectations were too high?

Have any of you tried this foundation?

  1. Oh no! I love this foundation! It's probably the best drug store one I've ever come across. It's strange how different products work differently on different people! I apply it with either the buffing brush or the expert face brush if that's any help. I do find you need more pumps of it - 1 and a half-2 where most foundations only need one pump though! xxxxx

    1. Do you use a primer with this abs? I use Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm which does what it says on the tin - do you think if I stopped using these together it may be better? I'm waiting on some new brushes so will try with these. I'm so sad as it seems everyone in the blogosphere loves this! xxxxx

    2. Nope babs. I just use it straight on my face! It could be the primer because this has light reflecting particles and SPF and I'm assuming because the Elemis is pro radiance it does too! So maybe it's just too shiny and slippy? I'm not sure hehe but it's defo worth giving it a go! :-) I have to say I didn't like using my RT stippling brush with it because it felt like the foundation was too thick for the brush to spread out nicely so you never know you're new brushes might do the trick! xxxxxx
